ABOUT DAVID CRYSTAL P.97

A narrative short story about two women doing beads.

SYNOPSIS

To classify things into categories is to identify
features of sameness, and to disregard any differences
as irrelevant to your purpose. Since linguistic signs
are combination of form and meaning, we might classify
them in reference to one or the other. An alternative
is to consider how the forms function as components
in larger structure. But this may have its problem too.
